Amar Vamsi Krishna is a Systems Engineer at NextStep Robotics with a passion for creating solutions that are necessary, usable, and affordable for real people in the real world. He is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Systems Engineering with a specialization in Robotic Systems at the University of Maryland, College Park, and has a degree in Mechanical Engineering, graduating as a Valedictorian with a First class with distinction. With over 6 years of relevant experience, Amar has worked as a Research Scientist, Software Engineer, and Designer. He has research experience in developing a novel visual task for robot-assisted gait therapy and has worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Maryland. He has also worked as a Research Assistant on the Energy Audit Team at the Small and Smart Thermal Systems Lab at UMD and as a Project Assistant at the Robotics Lab at the Indian Institute of Science. Amar has start-up experience as a Roobot Software Developer at CleverPet, where he developed firmware level software and tests for the CleverPet hub, the world's first interactive gaming console for dogs. He also worked as an Industrial Designer at Audoce Mechatronics, where he improved the mechanical architecture of "Brelo," the first Indian smartphone-controlled lock. Amar believes that having diverse experiences is essential to creating better designs and solutions. He is a firm believer in Steve Jobs' quote, "The broader one's understanding of the human experience, the better design we will have." Amar is currently in search of full-time opportunities in the field of Robotics starting from the Summer of 2018. His tech stack includes research, software engineering, design, and search.
